“Should Have Been
a Cowboy” was the first song that Logan Russell ever sang in front of an
audience. Unfazed by inhibitions and singing at the top of his lungs, Logan
debuted wearing only his underwear, cowboy boots, a cowboy hat and a pistol belt
sporting a six shooter. The fans were mesmerized by his animated rendition and
amazed by his innate ability to consistently sing on key despite all the
distractions artists encounter while performing live. Of course, it bears
mentioning that he was only three years old and the crowd happened to be family
members.
Logan’s love for
singing materialized during his early years. Later on, he joined the children’s
choir at church and also performed as the lead singer in several school choral
events.
At the age of 10
Logan received a guitar for Christmas. He busied himself for the next two years
learning basic chords. The practice paid off around the age of 12 when he would
awaken his Step-Dad regularly with the sound of the opening riff to “Sweet Home
Alabama”.
It was a year later
when his middle school choir teacher mentioned a talent show that was being held
at the new Windstar Casino and Logan signed up. Thinking that it would be
showcasing local talent, Logan and his family were caught off guard by the level
of talent possessed by the other contestants. After listening to the
introductions for the first six competitors and hearing their long lists of
accomplishments while realizing there were 52 others that he also was going up
against, Logan wasn’t sure what he had gotten into.
But Logan went on
anyways and sang “Brown Eyed Girl.” After his performance, it was evident that
he had won the heart of every girl in the place. He garnered the honor for top
male vocalist and placed 4th overall. It’s worth noting that Logan was the only
contestant that night who provided his own accompaniment. As a result, several
talent scouts contacted him on the spot.
Since then, he’s
stayed busy performing on a regular basis. He sings at the many Opry Houses
around Oklahoma and Texas and has sang on the “Johnnie High Music Revue.” His
most recent accomplishment is singing at “Toby Keith’s, I Love This Bar and
Grill” in Oklahoma City.
Now 6’1, 103 lbs.
Logan looks and sounds much older than his 17 years. His stage presence is
wonderful and he is great at engaging the crowd during his performances.
In the few moments
of spare time that Logan has, he enjoys playing football as well as going to the
University of Oklahoma football games with his father. He loves to hunt, fish,
and plays basketball and runs track for his high school team at Plainview.
In addition to
everything else, he and his Step-Dad still work a herd on the family’s Buck
Ranch.
Even though several
years have passed since his debut, Logan still wears a cowboy hat and boots. He
adopted Wranglers and a buttoned-down shirt for performance attire while trading
in his six-guns for a guitar. With a heart as big as the great outdoors, God on
his side, and a huge love for music, Logan Russell is shooting for the stars.
